Hello! My name is Irene
I am a qualified Counseling Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and with the Board of Healthcare Funders. In addition, I am affiliated with the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) and with numerous organisations offering Employee Assisted Programmes.
I completed my master’s degree at the University of Pretoria. I believe that training and development is a lifelong pursuit and for this reason I have attended, and will continue to attend, numerous workshops to keep up to date with current developments. I have a preferred interest in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and have attended numerous interactive groups in this regard. Furthermore, I have an interest to explore alternative and empirically researched methods to help alleviate mental health distress. In this regard, my dissertation for my master’s degree was exploring the possible benefits of laughter therapy as an adjunct intervention to alleviate distress of care-workers looking after HIV infected and affected families. I am currently working in numerous corporate settings as well as running a private practice. My passion is to help individuals to cope and adapt to the continuous changing world, in order to perform optimally in their communities and work place. My aim is to offer individuals and couples a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where change and meaning can be explored and facilitated. I respect the uniqueness of individuals and therefore I tailor each therapy to meet the individual presenting challenge. I integrate elements from numerous approaches including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Client Centred Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness Based Therapy and BWRT (Brain Working Recursive Therapy).
I have participated on numerous radio talks and have made an appearance on a TV talk show, Mental Health Issues.
As a professional, I have the ability to deal with the growing challenges and dynamics in both the corporate and private arena. My life experiences (personally and professionally) have equipped me to empathize with diverse situations that confront members of our community.
I enjoy expanding the frontiers of my profession and subjects of interest. In this, I believe that my skills and knowledge are those of an individual to whom change is the norm rather than the exception.
